Warm Welcome

The Warm Welcome Campaign was a crisis response to keep people warm through the winter following the Covid pandemic and cost of living crisis.

Brief

Endorsed by Former PM Gordon Brown, the campaign wanted to raise awareness of what it was offering across the UK so people knew about local spaces that were full of human and physical warmth, belonging, connection and hope, when they didn't have means to heat their own homes.

We were asked to run the Warm Welcome press office for the duration of the campaign and work with their comms team to deliver and input into their proactive PR strategy.

Solution

Working with partners, we ran a busy press office that responded to enquires from all types of media, connecting them with regionalised spokespeople.

We identified trends that would enable opinion pieces to be written as a way of speaking into what society was facing on a whole and the impact of church and community initiatives to tackle the issues. We also promoted case studies that personified the issues the everyday person was facing and how the warm spaces were helping them.

We also worked alongside Warm Welcome Partners to bring on a pool of influencers to visit warm welcome spaces and offer comments/endorsements within press materials.

When the Daily Mirror named the Warm Welcome Campaign as its Christmas Charity of the year 2022, we worked with the team to deliver exclusive content and marketing materials to the Mirror.

Impact

On the ground

Warm Welcome spaces hosted 2 million visits across 4,000 spaces and on average hosted over 120,000 visitors every week.

The Warm Welcome Campaign has since been shortlisted for a Breakthrough Award at this year's Third Sector Awards, recognising the impact that they have had since launching in 2022.

Media coverage

Through collaborating with the Warm Welcome Campaign's partners and the network of warm spaces across the UK, we secured a total of 2,800 media mentions across the six-month campaign. Specific highlights include:
